The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Peacock In September 2021

YouTube By Danielle Ryan/Sept. 2, 2021 7:33 pm EST

It’s time for back to school, which means it’s time to return to Whitlock High. Peacock’s original series “A.P. Bio” will return for its fourth season this month. There’s something for everyone hitting the platform this month, with episodes of NBC series favorites like “Chicago Fire” and “Law and Order” at the ready for grandma, movies like “Tombstone” and “Men in Black” for the whole family, and a slew of vintage horror classics to get everyone in the spooky spirit.

Here’s some of the best of what’s streaming on Peacock this September.

A.P. Bio Season 4

Peacock

Jack is back, baby! Glenn Howerton, Patton Oswalt, and the rest of the amazing cast of “A.P. Bio” return for a fourth season that’s sure to give us the giggles. Howerton stars as Jack Griffin, a disgraced Harvard professor who was forced to take a job teaching Advanced Placement biology in his hometown high school. Instead of teaching biology, however, he enlists his students in all kinds of schemes. Along the way he’s both helped and foiled by the bumbling Principal Durbin (Oswalt) and his assistant Helen (Paula Pell). There’s a massive ensemble cast of teachers and students here, and they’re all killing it.

This season, Jack will encounter an old nemesis: his oft-absent father, John. Jack has more daddy issues than a stack of “Parents” magazines, and he’s mostly run from them until now. Horror icon Bruce Campbell will play John, and it should be a blast to see him riffing with Howerton and Oswalt. Who knows, maybe one day they’ll read from the Necronomicon or something. I just know that Heather (Allisyn Ashley Arm) would be the one volunteering to read the Latin.

Beetlejuice

Warner Bros.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Bee- never mind. I don’t need Michael Keaton in my living room. He stars as the titular Ghost with the Most in “Beetlejuice,” the 1988 horror-comedy that inspired a whole generation of goth kids. Young couple Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) die tragically and become trapped in their country home as ghosts. They’re just getting a grip on the afterlife when a new family buys their house and changes everything, driving them up the walls in the process. They try to scare them out, but a budding friendship with their teenage daughter, Lydia (Winona Ryder), makes them reconsider.

Adam and Barbara end up summoning the troublemaking Beetlejuice to try and exorcise the living from their home, and nothing goes as they expect. “Beetlejuice” is hilarious, plus it’s full of great music, fantastic special effects makeup, and gorgeous production design. Director Tim Burton really digs into his unique style here, and it’s one of his best films.

Blade

New Line Cinema

September is like October eve, which means it’s time to watch horror movies. “Blade” is a perfect way to start your spooky season, because this action-horror movie is just a pure blast from start to finish. This 1998 movie was based on a Marvel comic book and stars Wesley Snipes as the day-walking vampire hunter Blade. He has some vampiric powers as a result of his mother being turned while he was in the womb, but he keeps them at bay with the help of a serum made by his accomplice, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). He faces off against a number of vampires, including the especially vicious Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff).

“Blade” spawned two sequels and a television series, and a new “Blade” movie is in the works as part of the official MCU. It’s a stylish and silly throwback to late ’90s horror that’s become a cult classic for a reason.

The World’s End

Universal Pictures

It’s feeling a little apocalyptic out there, so director Edgar Wright’s comedy “The World’s End” is a perfect balm to soothe frayed nerves. This film, the third in the loosely connected Cornetto Trilogy which began with “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”, follows a group of friends as they try to navigate a robotic alien invasion. Simon Pegg, who co-wrote the script with Wright, stars as Gary King, an immature alcoholic who wants to relive the glory days of his youth. He rounds up his old gang, including Andy (Nick Frost), Steven (Paddy Considine), Oliver (Martin Freeman), and Peter (Eddie Marsan), and drags them on a pub crawl to try to reconnect and celebrate.

Things take a nasty turn when the quintet discover they’re at the center of a hostile alien takeover, and that people in the town have been replaced by robots that look identical to their human versions. They must overcome their personal demons, the strains on their friendships, and more in order to survive the end of the world. It’s Wright’s best film and one that leaves me feeling inspired every time I watch it.
